FORCE EVENT — SOUND GUIDE

Conference, convention or concert sound: what changes?

The term “event sound” covers very different uses. A speech-led conference is not prepared in the same way as a convention mixing several content types or a concert.

To define the human requirement, start from the programme and real audio use rather than the event label alone.

01

1. CONFERENCE: SPEECH COMES FIRST

The running order, number of speakers, Q&A segments and timings shape the operation requirement.

02

2. CONVENTION: MULTIPLE CONTENT TYPES

A convention may combine speech, video, music, transitions and stage segments, creating more interfaces with other technical trades.

03

3. CONCERT: MORE SPECIALISED OPERATION

A concert follows a musical programme and sound organisation defined by the technical production, with clear responsibilities for each role.

04

4. THE COMMON FACTOR: A PRECISE BRIEF

Whatever the format, crews need a schedule, planned system, defined scope and clearly identified contacts.

KEY POINT

Event format changes the way sound is used and therefore how technicians are organised. The programme is the best starting point for defining the requirement.
